Radio Show's Compass Points True South

Neal Priest and Russell Edwards host a new call-in AM radio show that offers a progressive point of view.

They got tired of talking back to the radio. Tired of misinformation whirling around their heads like flocks of angry birds. Tired of the poisonous environment of talk radio.

So, physician Neal Priest, his wife, radio producer Pat Priest, and Congressional Democratic candidate and attorney Russell Edwards have created a different kind of talk show on AM radio.

Called “True South,” their hour-long call-in show will offer a progressive point of view on immediate issues facing the state and the country.

The show debuts today at 10 a.m. on WGAU (1340 AM) and ends at 11 a.m. For those who miss it, don’t worry, the radio station will be streaming it later today.

“We wanted to provide some balance and counterpoint to the misinformation going out to the public,” says Neal Priest, an emergency room doctor who works at St. Mary’s.

Adds Edwards: “We’re speaking to the values of everyday folks, the people who are struggling to get by.”

Today’s show tackles the thorny issue of immigration reforms. Offering two points of view are D.A. King, noted anti-immigrant activist, and immigration attorney Charles Kuck.

The third guest today is Jackie Mohan, a faculty member from the Odum Institute of Ecology at the University of Georgia.

Encouraged by Pat Priest, the co-hosts will give a shout-out to the scoundrel of the week and the do-gooder of the week. She says the show’s focus is community building.

Neal Priest and Edwards want listeners to join the conversation by calling in during the show or making comments on the show’s Facebook page at facebook.com/truesouth.
