Roundabout Headed to Tallassee and Whitehead Roads Intersection
The busy intersection in Athens, Ga., is getting a new traffic feature. Eventually.

Boston has them. Hilton Head has them. Washington, D.C., has many. Hinesville, for goodness sake, has one, too.
And now, Athens is getting a roundabout, or traffic circle. One is going to be built at the intersection of Whitehead and Tallassee roads, the Athens Clarke County Commission decided Tuesday night.

Commissioner Jared Bailey, who represents that part of the county, believes residents will grow to love their round-about. It’s going to be built even without funds from the T-SPLOST.
But it won’t be the first one in Athens. That distinction goes to a round-about on the east side of Athens.
