School Crossing Guard Added to Five Points Intersection
A crossing guard and other changes should make the busy Five Points intersection a little safer.

Those with children at Barrow Elementary will notice a pleasant addition to the landscape on Monday: a school crossing guard will be working the Five Points intersection during the morning and afternoon.
There is a crossing guard at Lumpkin and Rutherford already. And there are many students who come to school on foot or bicycle every day.
Years ago, some parents remember, there was a crossing guard at the busy Five Points intersection. The guard’s returning is thanks to District 4 Commissioner Allison Wright and ACC Police Chief Jack Lumpkin.

Wright said that last May, parent Dawn Myers brought up the idea of having a crossing guard at the intersection. Dawn’s husband David was one of those who remembers the original guard.
Other improvements will be coming to the intersection, Wright says, thanks to a grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The funds are part of the Barrow Safe Routes to School program.
