Shredded Tire Leads To Arrest For Convicted Felon

Stopped for a traffic problem, the suspect had a truck full of problems, police learned.

 

A police officer stopped a pickup truck early Tuesday because it had a shredded tire that was grinding on the asphalt of Oconee Street.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, driver Jimmie Gresham pulled over at the new park-and-ride lot, telling police he was looking for a safe place to change his tire. A little while later, Gresham failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI.

A search of the truck found a semiautomatic pistol between the front seat cushions and bullets in the ash tray, along with an open bottle of gin, the story says

The 55-year-old Gresham Gresham, of Norwood Circle, faces charges that include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, DUI, possession of an open container in a vehicle, and driving a vehicle with a faulty tire.
