St. Mary's Receives Lactation Award

Hospital cited for providing support, training and education for mothers and families.

 

Health Care System has been cited for excellence in lactation care. The award was given by The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).

St. Mary’s received the IBCLC Care Award for staffing International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs) and for providing a lactation program that is available seven days a week for breastfeeding families.

Plus, the facility demonstrated that its experts provided recent breastfeeding training for medical staff who care for new families, and have recently completed activities that help protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

St. Mary’s International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are Donna Jenkins, RN, and Laura Crowe, BSHP.  Both are on the staff of St. Mary’s Family Birth Center, where they offer classes on breastfeeding, weekly support groups, and one-on-one breastfeeding consultations with mothers.

In addition, Jenkins and Crowe educate and train other staff in St. Mary’s Family Birth Center to ensure that all families receive quality advice and assistance in establishing and maintaining the breastfeeding relationship.
