SunTrust Branch Closing in Atlanta Highway Publix

Open since 1997, the Suntrust in-store branch is closing in the Atlanta Highway Publix.

Hugh Suhr, a Suntrust spokesman, said the branch is the only one closing in the Athens area. He said that customers could be served by another branch that's across Atlanta Highway.

A Publix employee said he didn't think another bank is going to move into the vacant bank space. Nor did he know what the corporate office of Publix plans to do with the bank space.

When asked whether affected bank employees would be reassigned to other Suntrust locations, Suhr said, "We’re committed to working with our teammates affected by this but don’t have any details to offer beyond that."
