Suspect Comes Clean, Says He Sold Soap for Crack
The Athens resident was arrested at a CVS and charged with shoplifting.

An Athens resident was charged with two counts shoplifting and one count of criminal trespassing on August 9.

Eric R. Acklin, 35, of Athens was arrested at a CVS Pharmacy on Oglethorpe Avenue. Store employees recognized Eric Acklin from an earlier incident and called police.

Acklin allegedly stole seven bottles of Dove soap. Police questioned Acklin at his home and searched for the stolen property.
Acklin claimed he had been home all day, despite the video showing Acklin in CVS. When police arrested Acklin for shoplifting and criminal trespassing, he said that he sold the bodywash “to a ‘Mexican’ named Jose for crack cocaine.

Acklin was transported to the Clarke County Jail.
