Truck Driver Dead, 3 Injured In Athens Crash
While two men were checking on a woman who was involved in the initial crash, they were hit by a SUV while crossing the street.
ATHENS — An Athens semi-truck driver is dead, and two people are injured, after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at Commerce and Pinebluff roads, Athens-Clarke County Police said Wednesday.
The crash happened around 5:45 p.m., when a 2002 Chevy Malibu pulled into the path of a 2014 semi-truck that was heading north on Commerce, police said.
After crashing, both of the vehicles rested in a turning lane at the intersection, police said.

Quentin Williams, the 31-year-old driver of the semi-truck, was uninjured from the crash and left his truck to get to a safer location across the street, police said.
A male co-worker joined Williams afterwards; and then, the two men decided to walk across Commerce to check on the woman driver of the Malibu, police said.

While the men were crossing the road, they were hit by a Chevy Tahoe, police said.
Williams was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said. His co-worker was taken to a hospital, where he is being treated for non-threatening injuries, police said.
The woman injured in the initial crash was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said. She is currently in critical condition, police said. Her passenger had minor injuries.
This is the 17th fatal crash in Athens this year, resulting in 18 deaths, police said.
