Truck Driver Dies In Single-Vehicle Athens Crash

The Oakwood man died Tuesday after a crash at Lexington Road in Athens-Clarke County.

ATHENS, GA — The driver of a wood-chipper truck died Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash at Lexington Road near the Oak Drive intersection, Athens-Clarke County Police said Wednesday.

Police identified the driver as Brandon Tolbert, 27, of Oakwood.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m., when the truck was heading west on Lexington in the inside lane.

The truck, which was carrying a trailer, veered to the left and hit a curb before sideswiping landscaping in the center median, police said. The truck then came to a rest.

Police said Tolbert was removed from the truck and given medical care. He later died at a local hospital, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. This is the 13th fatal vehicle crash in Athens-Clarke County this year.
