UGA 2013 Earth Week (April 22-27) Events
These events are being coordinated by the UGA Office of Sustainability.

Monday, April 22: Earth Day
Event 1: Earth Day Tabling Event
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Location: Tate Center Plaza
Details: This event kicks off UGA Earth Week featuring information promoting sustainability initiatives from student- focused and community organizations. Also featured will be UGA Earth Week Headquarters, a table hosted by
the UGA Office of Sustainability and UGA Students for Environmental Action to inform students, faculty and staff about the week’s activities and ways to volunteer and become involved on campus. A visit from the Chew Crew (yup those cute goats on campus) will highlight the fair!

Event 2: Scott Russell Sanders Lecture
Time: 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Location: Day Chapel at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia
Details: Environmental Ethics Certificate Program and Georgia Review host the award-winning fiction and nonfiction author, Scott Russell Sanders. Scott is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English at Indiana University, the author of twenty books of fiction and nonfiction, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2012.
Tuesday, April 23: Waste and Recycling Day Event 1: Campus Outdoor Waste Bin Audit Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: Tate Center Lawn

Details: Participate in a campus waste audit by sorting recycling and collecting data that will help UGA get closer to its waste reduction goals. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to volunteer. Spots are limited and freebies included. Email sustain@uga.edu to participate. In the event of rain the waste audit will be canceled.
Event 2: Recycling “Happy Hour”
Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Location: Intramural Fields Parking Lot (E01)
Details: ACC Recycling Division , UGA Office of Sustainability, and WUGA partner to host this “spring cleaning” event. Recycle your electronics (including TVs), batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and cooking grease. Volunteers are needed - please email sustain@uga.edu to participate.
Event 3: No-Waste Dinner
Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Location: Odum School of Ecology
Details: Hosted by Real Food UGA and Students for Environmental Action (SEA), the no-waste dinner will incorporate a panelist discussion of local food initiative in an evening of good food and good times at the Odum School of Ecology. Bring your own fork, plate and cup to this 4th annual sustainable dinner.
Wednesday, April 24: Transportation Day Event 1: BikeAthens Bike Safety Training Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: Myers Quad
Details: Learn expert tips from the local cycling advocacy organization, BikeAthens, as they focus on bike safety, helmet fittings and cycling etiquette. Free swag for training participants!
Event 2: UGArden SXSM (South by South Milledge) Sustainable Spring Concert
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Location: UGArden on S. Milledge Avenue just past the State Botanical Garden
Details: Celebrate music, sustainability and good food at UGArden. Co-sponsored by UGArden and WUOG. $2 admission. Bands include Ecotones, Barlettas, and more to come! For more information visit the SXSM Facebook Event. Rain date: April 29th.
Thursday, April 25: Sustainability Leadership Day
Event 1: WEBINAR: Red, Black and Green: Creating a Culture of Sustainability in Your Workplace
Sponsored by the UGA Division of Student Affairs Time: 10-11:00 a.m.

Event 2: Georgia Leaders in Sustainability Panel
Time: 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Location: UGA Law Dean Rusk Center, 4th floor, Larry Walker Room
Details: A highlight of the week, this career-oriented panel will feature Georgia-based industry Leaders in Sustainability including speakers from Novelis, Ignition, Intercontinental Hotels Group, and Southface. Co-sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, Terry College Net Impact student organization, and UGA School of Law Environmental Law Association.
Event 3: UOWN Terrapin Night
Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Location: Terrapin Brewery
Details: Support the Upper Oconee Watershed Network by attending the UOWN Terrapin Night. There will be local community and student groups distributing information and hosting activities to increase awareness of sustainability within our community.
Friday, April 26: Water Day
Event 1: River clean-up with Big Dog's on the River and Keep Athens Clarke County Beautiful (KACCB)
Time: 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Location: Middle Oconee River (Big Dogs on the River)
Details: Join Big Dogs on the River, UOWN, Keep Athens Clarke County Beautiful, UGA Outdoor Recreation and the Office of Sustainability to paddle and cleanup the river banks of the Middle Oconee River. Then, dry-off and stick around for live tunes and local food at the cabana. All are welcome; no paddling experience needed.
Saturday, April 27: Local Food Day
Event 1: Campus Kitchen Greens Cook-Off
Time: 10:00- a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: Athens Farmers Market: Bishop Park
Details: A collaborative event with EarthFare, UGA’s Campus Kitchen, and the Athens Farmers Market. Contestants should have their dish turned in at the farmers market by 9:30 a.m. Judging is open to the public. Tickets are available for purchase, which allows judges to sample and vote for their favorite dishes. Contact Nathalie Celestin at celestin@uga.edu with any questions.
