UGA's Jalen Carter Booked Into, Released From Clarke County Jail
Carter is facing a misdemeanor charge in connection with the Jan. 15 crash that killed Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy in Athens.

ATHENS, GA — Jalen Carter, the Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman who is facing misdemeanor charges in connection with a fatal car crash, was booked into and released from Clarke County Jail late Wednesday night, according to jail records.
Carter, 21, was charged on suspicion of reckless driving and racing, Athens-Clarke County Police said Wednesday morning. He was booked into the jail around 11:33 p.m. and was released around 11:49 p.m., according to jail records.
Carter is being charged in connection with the Jan. 15 crash that killed a Univerisity of Georgia football player Devin Willock and UGA recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy near Barnett Shoals Road. Two other members of the UGA football program were injured in the crash.

Police said LeCroy was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition while Carter was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk when the two were racing around 2:30 a.m.
Both cars were switching lanes, driving in the center turn lane and drove in opposite lanes while overtaking other cars and driving fast to speed past one another, police said.

The Expedition was going at 104 mph before crashing, police said.
Carter released a statement on Twitter Wednesday, expressing confidence that he would be cleared of any wrongdoing.
