Wallet Snatched, Woman Assaulted in Two Incidents on North Avenue in Athens, Ga.

On February 27 around 12:43pm, a man from Hull reported that he had been sitting in his vehicle at 285 North Avenue when a man opened the front passenger door and snatched his wallet and papers from the passenger seat. After an investigation, Aaron Allen Burton, 19, Sanders Road, was arrested and charged with Robbery – Forcible Purse Snatching. 

Around 12:55am on February 28, a woman Hull Road told police that she had been at a location on North Avenue and asked a stranger to give her a ride to another location. While en route, the suspect pulled off the road at a Commerce Road location and showed the woman a pocket knife and told her to remove her clothing. The woman got out of the vehicle and ran for help. A passerby stopped to help her. After an investigation, Charles Henry Elder, 51, of Winterville, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault-Other Dangerous Weapon; DUI of Alcohol; and Driving Without a Valid License.
