Watkinsville Woman Dies In Athens Car Crash

Police said the Watkinsville drove in the wrong direction Wednesday morning at GA Outer Loop 10 near Timothy Road.

ATHENS, GA β€” An 81-year-old Watkinsville woman died Wednesday in a two-car crash involving a car traveling the wrong way at GA Outer Loop 10 near Timothy Road, Athens-Clarke County Police said.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m., when police said a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta entered GA Outer Loop 10 from South Milledge Avenue and headed in the wrong direction.

Near the entrance ramp from Timothy Road, the Jetta crashed into a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC, police said.

Lizzie Rouhlac, the driver of the Jetta, died at the scene, police said. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

This is the third fatal motor vehicle crash this year in Athens-Clarke County.
