Whiz Kid: Railey Young

Each week, Athens Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

Name: Railey Young

Age: 6

Grade: 2nd

School: Whit Davis Elementary

Accomplishments: Railey Michele Young is the six-year-old daughter of Sabrina and Loehr Young and has lost six teeth. The Youngs live in the family-friendly Lexington Estates subdivision on the Eastside of Athens. Railey loves living in a neighborhood where she has lots of friends. When I asked Railey her favorite thing to do, she matter of factly answered, "playing with friends outside and jumping on the trampoline."

Railey and her older brother, Randon, are proud Wildcats. Sabrina is a radiographer at and an active member of Whit Davis Elementary School's PTO. Railey loves her school and looks forward to favorite yearly school activities like Skate Night and Movie Night.

Music is a big part of Railey's life. She told me Katie Perry, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber were her top three favorite singers. Railey won first place in a karoke singing contest with her brother Randon with Katie Perry's song "Teenage Dream." Railey enjoys dancing and takes ballet, tap, and jazz dance classes at on South Milledge Avenue.

One of Railey's favorite Athens events is the . Loehr is a long-time employee of and Railey is an annual participant in the kids' bike races. Another Athens annual tradition Railey looks forward to attending is the Holiday Parade of Lights downtown every December.

Railey is crazy about animals, particularly cats. The Youngs have three cats: Morris, Sheba and Show-Up. Show-Up is slated to be a part of a ten-day UGA research study on cats that live indoors and outdoors. Railey is excited about this because she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up.

Railey is an adventurous diner who adores brie. She's also a big fan of vegetables (like celery, carrots, and brocolli) and fruit (like mangos, kiwi, and peaches). Railey's favorite place to eat in Athens is the near home on the Eastside of town.

Key to Awesomeness: Railey is spunky and fearless. More than happy to speak her mind, Railey has a strong sense of individuality.
