Words Mean So Much

Peace family,

On Tuesday, Antoinette Tuff used her words to speak to Michael Brandon Hill's heart.  The twenty year old Hill, entered Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur, GA with the intent of causing his own funeral and many other ones.

Fortunately, Tuff was in the right place at the right time.  The time she took to share her story and speak encouraging words to Hill made all the difference.  Hill exchanged gunfire with the police but eventually surrendered.  No injuries.  No loss of life.

This story illustrated for me just how powerful words can be. Our words carry significant meaning but most of the time we aren't even aware of their impact.

Most of us are careless with our words. We just go about slinging words here and there. We don't take the time to stop and see where our words land. Are they seeds to help someone change and grow or are they darts to someone's heart?

We live in a world where we can hide behind technology and say whatever we want without immediate consequence. We live in a time where we would rather hear and share gossip about someone else than face the truth about ourselves.

We are all hurting inside and we each have a responsibility to think carefully about what we say to one another. We don't know how or when our words will change someone's life for the better or for the worse. So if you wouldn't want something said to you or about you then don't let those things fall from your lips.

"Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace."
