Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Kathy Cioffi, your host of the Atlanta Daily.

Here are the top 5 stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Georgia's House leadership has proposed a $1 billion income tax cut. The legislation, announced Tuesday by House Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, and other House leaders, would lower the state's income tax rate and raise the standard deduction, providing tax relief and simplifying Georgia's tax system. "It's simple. It's fair, and allows Georgians to keep more of their money," said House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Shaw Blackmon, of Bonaire, sponsor of the proposal. Should the House bill pass, it wouldn't take effect until 2024, so budget writers would have time to figure out how to make up for the loss of tax revenue. 2. At least the first six games are scratched off the Atlanta Braves' regular-season schedule after negotiators for the Major League Baseball owners and players failed again Tuesday to reach agreement on a new labor deal. Still on the calendar for the defending World Series champion Braves – for now – is the scheduled April 7 home opener against Cincinnati at Truist Park. But that game is also at risk of cancellation unless an agreement is reached soon. (Free: MLB.com/Braves; Subscription: Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. The Bank of America Plaza Tower in the heart of Midtown - an icon of the Atlanta skyline since its construction in 1992 - has been acquired by CP Group, a vertically-integrated commercial real estate and management firm. The 55-story Class-A skyscraper at 600 Peachtree St NE was acquired in a joint venture with funds managed by HPS Investment Partners, LLC. The nationally recognizable office tower is currently occupied by anchor tenants including Bank of America and national law firm Troutman Pepper. (What Now Atlanta)
  4. A woman who met a man online was allegedly shot by him early Tuesday morning and police are investigating. According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers discovered the injured woman at a gas station along the 2200 block of Cascade Road around 6 a.m., though police said the shooting apparently happened somewhere else. The woman told officers she met a man online and agreed to meet with him in person at a different location, after which the two began arguing and the woman was shot in the chest and leg. Police said the woman was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. "Please keep in mind that this is preliminary information and may change as the investigation progresses," police said. 5. Tyler Perry – world-renowned actor, director, producer, screenwriter, playwright, author, songwriter, entrepreneur and founder of Atlanta's Tyler Perry Studios – will deliver the keynote address at Emory University's 177th Commencement ceremony in May. He will also be awarded an honorary doctor of letters degree from Emory. The mastermind behind 17 feature films, 20 stage plays, seven television shows and a New York Times bestselling book, Perry is also known for his wide-ranging philanthropic work, both personally and through the Perry Foundation. The neighborhood was founded in the early 1800s and quickly became a thriving community of working residents and families. Pittsburgh is home to many firsts for the City of Atlanta. The contributions, sacrifices and stories of previous generations are woven into the fabric of Atlanta's culture today. (Facebook)
