10 Tornadoes Spawned In GA Due To Tropical Storm Arthur's Remnants: Here's Where

A National Weather Service report detailing the 10 recent tornadoes was released ahead of more upcoming storms in Georgia.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur, which caused at least $4 billion in damage and economic loss across the U.S. last week, spawned 10 tornadoes and a downburst in Georgia, according to a preliminary report released Tuesday.

The report was compiled by the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office. The NWS stated the survey process was difficult "due to the nature of the meteorological feature which was causing the majority of the tornados."

There were two indirect fatalities and two indirect injuries that occurred the day after an 80 mph tornado tore through Putnam County, the NWS reported.

The agency said it is likely the tornado weakened the tree, which ultimately fell onto a vehicle.

Arthur on June 18 blasted through the South with life-threatening rain, floods, tornadoes and gusty winds, according to AccuWeather.

The tropical storm unloaded at least 20 inches of rainfall in some areas across the Gulf and led to an estimated $4-$6 billion in damage and economic loss nationally, AccuWeather reported.

Impacts stretched from Texas to Florida. Across the region, AccuWeather reported there were power outages, as well as impacts to structures and travel.

In Georgia, Arthur's remnants trekked through north and central Georgia in the afternoon and evening. The system trailed a severe weather pattern that continued during the system's passage, the NWS reported.

Though the system had similarities to a 2023 tornado in Griffin, the NWS stated it was weaker in comparison.

A downburst dropped around 3:45 a.m. into Sumter County, west of Americus, according to the NWS report. A downburst is "a strong downdraft current of air" that derives from intense thunderstorms and can generate damaging winds, the NWS stated.

The NWS said a full writeup of the report is forthcoming.

As for a recent forecast, more storms are expected to arise Thursday and Friday, according to the NWS.

It was not immediately known if the storms will become strong or severe.

Additionally, humidity will prompt high apparent temperatures next week in Georgia. These "feel-like" temperatures could exceed 100 degrees.
