2 Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting Of Atlanta Teen

ATLANTA, GA — Two people were recently arrested in the May 28 shooting death of 16-year-old Breasia Powell at Benjamin E. Mays High School, Atlanta Police said Friday.

Police say warrants were secured on Jan. 16 to charge Jaquan Withers, 18, on suspicion of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The warrants were served at the Fulton County Jail, where Withers was being held on unrelated charges, police said.

Investigators were securing warrants Thursday for Willie Dennis, 19, when they were alerted to his location, police said, adding Dennis was wanted out of Jackson County on a theft-related warrant.

Police said officers assigned to Operation Heatwave located Dennis and conducted a traffic stop on the car in which he was traveling, taking Dennis into custody without incident.

Dennis faces the same charges as Withers, police said. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail.

Officers responded around 2:30 a.m., May 28, to Mays High School after being asked to assist the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department. Police had received a report of multiple people being shot.

Police said two people, including Powell, had been shot. Powell was in critical condition before dying at the hospital of her injuries, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition, police said.

Homicide investigators previously said several suspects were identified in the case though it was not known Monday if more arrests will be made.
