Morning, neighbors! Kathy Cioffi here with the Thursday issue of the Atlanta Daily.

First, today's weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m.. High: 73 Low: 59.

Here are the top stories today in Atlanta:

  1. A woman and a suspect died in an active-shooter situation Wednesday morning at a Midtown Atlanta high-rise, according to Atlanta police. Shots were fired after 3 a.m. Wednesday at the Atlantic House Midtown apartments on West Peachtree Street. When Atlanta police and SWAT responded, the suspect began firing at the officers, who fired back, killing the suspect in a shootout, investigators said. The man had shot and killed a woman who lived in the building, police said, and the two knew each other. No one else was injured and an APD officer said residents were allowed back in the building just before 7:45 a.m. Wednesday. (WSB Atlanta)
  2. A two-day conference by the U.S. Customs & Boarder Protections offered a leg – or four – up to K-9 officers from multiple jurisdictions around metro Atlanta, the state and other agencies. During baggage check training at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Tuesday, K-9 detection dogs from area agencies were able to sniff out crime on a far larger scale than is typical in those dogs' lives. "The K-9 community is a small community and we try to support each other all the time," said Ken Hodgkins, a supervisor with U.S Customs & Boarder Protections. About 12 dogs per day received training, Hodgkins said. (CBS46 News Atlanta)
  3. The Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-2 in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series Wednesday night. The win at Dodger Stadium gave the Braves a 3-1 lead in the NLCS for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Dodgers rallied to win the series in seven games. Once again just one game away from eliminating the Dodgers in the NLCS, the Braves will get another chance with Game 5 tonight in Los Angeles at 8:08 p.m. (Los Angeles Times)
  4. An Atlanta police officer hit by a car and seriously injured while investigating an accident on I-75 is recovering. Officer Steven Randerson was working a traffic accident Oct. 8 in the right shoulder on I-75 northbound near 17th Street NW when officials say another vehicle lost control and hit him from behind. The driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. While Randerson is off duty and healing, Atlanta police officials say the incident is a reminder to drivers of Georgia's Move Over Law, which requires drivers to move one lane over when emergency vehicles are stopped on the side of the road. (WSB Atlanta)
  5. U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker is being asked by Democrats and an Atlanta rabbi to apologize after a swastika created with syringes was used by a woman slated to hold a fundraiser for him. Critics claim Walker, who later canceled the fundraiser, did not adequately condemn the use of that "symbol of hate," which a Walker spokesperson said was originally designed "to condemn government vaccine mandates." Metro Atlanta Rabbi Joshua Lesser said he is still waiting for Walker to apologize, and canceling a fundraiser is not the same as taking responsibility. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
