Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:

  1. The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that people 50 and older and anyone who is immunocompromised in Georgia may get a second COVID-19 booster shot. Eligible individuals can receive either the Pfizer or Moderna booster at least four months after getting the first booster from either vaccine manufacturer. For people 12 and older who are immunocompromised, the FDA authorized a second Pfizer booster at least four months after the initial booster. The Moderna booster may be given to those 18 and older who are immunocompromised after the same period. Citing evidence of waning immunity in older and immunocompromised people, the FDA urged anyone who has not gotten their initial booster dose to do so. (Atlanta Patch)
  2. Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation Tuesday allowing parents to opt out of any school district mask mandates. More than two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, most Georgia schools have dropped mask mandates in response to declining infection rates and relaxed guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "This will ensure that parents have the final say when it comes to the health and well-being of their child," Kemp said prior to signing the bill. "It is a common sense measure that puts parents in charge – not the government." According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the governor could suspend the law - which takes effect immediately - in a state of emergency. 3. Chris Rock's Fox Theatre show July 29 is sold out. Two days after Will Smith slapped him during the live Oscars broadcast, the comedian has seen a surge in ticket sales for his world tour, tickets for which went on sale Feb. 25. When originally announced, Rock's world tour - his first in over five years - had 38 North American shows. In an Instagram post Monday afternoon, Smith issued an apology to Rock, calling his behavior "unacceptable and inexcusable." (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  4. A severe storm system is working its way across the Southeast today, with tornadoes and very strong storms likely across Mississippi and Alabama through the afternoon. The good news is, by the time the storms reach metro Atlanta after midnight, they are expected to have weakened considerably. However, isolated severe storms are possible, along with damaging winds. After heavy rain continues through Thursday's morning commute, sunshine will return by the afternoon. (CBS 46 News)

Where should you invest as an Atlanta resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Atlanta residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it's fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
