50 Safest Georgia Cities 2019 Ranked Using Crime, Survey Data

ATLANTA, GA — The home security website Safewise has released its rankings of the 50 safest cities in Georgia, topped by Senoia, known by fans everywhere as the home base of the AMC TV show "The Walking Dead."

Senoia landed in the top spot thanks to its low property crime numbers—just 39 total compared to Summerville’s 48, the website says. But despite the great records of our safest cities, Georgia’s overall crime rates are higher than the national average. The violent crime rate is 4.77, barely higher than the national rate of 4.49. But the property crime rate is 10 points higher at 37.57 incidents per 1,000, compared to 27.11 nationally.

While the safest cities are scattered across the state, many are suburbs of Atlanta, including Milton, John's Creek, Alpharetta, Decatur, Woodstock, Roswell, Dallas, Hiram and Lawrenceville.

Only two cities on the SafeWise list had more than 100 violent crimes, and the highest was 126 in Sandy Springs, which has a population of more than 100,000. Seventy percent of the safest cities had no murders.

Survey respondents ranked digital security as the top safety concern in Georgia; 26 percent reported personal experience with digital security issues in the past year — that’s two points higher than the national average.
