$905M Up For Grabs, $3M Winner In GA Lottery

Amid an estimated $905 million on the line in Monday's Powerball drawing, a Georgia resident racked up $3 million from a scratcher.

This is according to the Georgia Lottery Corporation, which on Monday said a Thomaston player won the $3 million prize with the 100x the Money scratch-off game.

The winning ticket was bought at a North Center Street convenience store. The prize was claimed Friday, lottery officials said.

Last week, the GLC said players have claimed $39,585,197 in winnings from scratch-off games.

A Milner resident won $150,000 in Saturday's Powerball drawing by matching four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball. The PowerPlay option raised the $50,000 prize to $150,000.

Georgia players have another chance at the massive Powerball jackpot with Monday's drawing. The $905 million jackpot is the eighth largest jackpot in the game’s history, lottery officials said.

Powerball tickets cost $2 with a $1 PowerPlay add-on option.

To play the lottery game in Georgia, hopefuls must buy their tickets by 10 p.m. on draw nights. Drawings are held at 11 p.m.

The Georgia Lottery Corporation provides lists of retailers offering tickets. Players only need to submit their zip codes to find nearby locations.

Tickets can also be purchased via the Georgia Lottery app.

• A Grovetown resident won $462,147 playing the Elephant King Jackpots diggi game on Monday.
• A player in St. Simons Island won $100,000 playing the Wheel of Fortune: On The Road diggi game on Saturday.
• A Norcross player won $10,000 playing the Fishing for Gold: On Tour diggi game on Friday.
• Two tickets won the $10,000 top prize in Saturday evening's drawing of Georgia FIVE. The tickets were bought at a Bankhead Highway food mart in Carrollton.
  

All funding from the Georgia Lottery's digital games, scratch-offs and other games benefit education in the Peach State, lottery officials said.

Online winning tickets have an expiration date of 180 days from the drawing date while instant ticket winners have 90 days from the expired date to claim prizes. Instructions on how to receive prizes are here.

Georgia takes 5.75 percent in state taxes and 24 percent in federal taxes for winnings more than $5,000.

"The (Georgia Lottery Corporation) reports to the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue the names of winners of prizes above $600. ... Additionally, the GLC is required to check for and deduct any outstanding child support payments for prizes of $2,500 and above and student loans and state taxes for prizes of $5,000 and above, net of wager or ticket cost," lottery officials said on the Georgia Lottery website.
