Airport Fuel Spill Leads To Gate Evacuation: Reports

Ground crews, firefighters cleaned up about 1,000 gallons of jet fuel Thursday that leaked from a hose, say media reports.

ATLANTA, GA — Crews and firefighters at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport cleaned up a jet fuel spill Thursday that caused the evacuation of several gates where passengers board planes, according to media reports. The leak of about 1,000 gallons of fuel occurred at around 10:15 a.m. at Concourse E, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The boarding of a Delta Airlines plane was halted, but there were no injuries reported.

The fuel spill occurred due to a problem with a connection between a fuel hose and a plane, according to media reports.

The leak was stopped, but Delta halted the boarding of a nearby aircraft as the airport closed off the area to contain the spill, a Delta spokesman told the AJC.

Ground crews and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department cleared the spill by 2:30 p.m. Thursday, and normal operations resumed, the airport announced on its Twitter feed.
