- After being accused of shooting two South Georgia deputies more than a week ago, Tyler Keith Henderson is finally behind bars. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Thomas County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Henderson was arrested Sunday in Thomas County. "He will now be a resident of the Thomas County Jail and will be held accountable for trying to take the life of three of our deputies," the Thomas County Sheriff's Office posted to its official Facebook page. Henderson shot two Thomas County Sheriff's Office deputies around midnight Tuesday, Jan. 11, in Ochlocknee, according to the GBI. (Atlanta Patch)
- A new study suggests one Atlanta suburb - Alpharetta - offers the best blend of busy city living amid quiet suburbs. According to a study from StorageCafe, the Atlanta-area suburb is ranked 19th on its "Best U.S. Suburbs For City-Like Living" list, thanks to good schools, high earnings, local businesses, lifestyle-oriented amenities and proximity to restaurants, stores and health care facilities. - The cover of the latest issue of Essence Magazine features a pair of Atlanta restaurateurs: Pinky Cole and her partner Derrick Hayes. Cole is the owner of Slutty Vegan, an Atlanta vegan restaurant, while Hayes owns Big Dave's Cheesesteaks. The magazine said in an Instagram post that Cole and Hayes are the first restaurateurs to make Essence's cover, which is part of a new special edition highlighting Black couples who "bet on love and business." - A five-year, $27 billion program announced Friday by the U.S. Department of Transportation includes funds to repair and improve about 15,000 bridges, including 374 deemed in poor condition in Georgia. The administration is releasing nearly $5.5 billion to states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and tribes this fiscal year to fund the program, which the administration called "the single largest dedicated bridge investment" since the interstate highway system was authorized in the 1950s. Georgia will receive a total of $225 million over five years. (Atlanta Patch)
- The Peach State is among the best states to drive in, according to a new WalletHub study, ranking No. 6 overall. To determine the most driver-friendly states in the country, WalletHub compared states across 31 key metrics. The data set ranged from average gas prices to rush-hour traffic congestion to road quality. According to WalletHub, the best state to drive in for 2022 is Iowa, and the worst is Hawaii.
