Here are the top 5 stories today in Atlanta:

  1. Feb. 23 has been designated as Ahmaud Arbery Day in Georgia by a new state resolution approved just one day after a jury found the young Black man's killers guilty of violating his civil rights in a federal hate crimes trial. To remember and commemorate Arbery, the oldest African-American running club in the country, the South Fulton Running Partners, held a day run on the Atlanta Beltline Wednesday. The 2.23 Ahmaud Arbery Day Run is slated to be an annual event, according to the organizers. (CBS46 News Atlanta)
  2. An Uber driver shot a pregnant woman multiple times in College Park Saturday night, forcing the premature delivery of her child, police said Tuesday. Officers responded to the shooting call at the Central Park Apartments at 2900 Camp Creek Parkway around 10:30 p.m., College Park police said. The victim, whose identity has not been released, had been shot once in the stomach and twice in the upper thigh, according to a GoFundMe page created by her father, Kenneth Anderson. The woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where the baby was delivered, police said, and both mother and child are now stable. College Park police confirmed they have identified the suspect and are working to take him into custody. (Free: NBCnews.com; Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Mardi Gras celebrations are heating up, with parades commencing daily in New Orleans until Fat Tuesday, March 1. Don't worry if you can't make it to the Crescent City, however, since there are plenty of ways to let the good times roll right here in Atlanta, as these lists illustrate. 4. The James Beard Foundation just released its list of the 2022 semifinalists in the restaurant and chef categories, and several Atlantans and Atlanta establishments made the cut. Considered the "Oscars" of the food world, 2022 heralds the return of the annual awards after ceremonies were canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Finalists will be announced March 16, with winners revealed during an awards ceremony June 13 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. (Atlanta Patch)
  5. HGTV star Alison Victoria has redesigned her Atlanta loft, which the "Windy City Rehab" designer first saw while she was in town for a guest appearance on Atlanta native Ty Pennington's show "Ty Breaker." Though she initially bought the loft with the intention of flipping it, she "started getting really into the project" and decided to keep the two-bedroom, two-bathroom loft in Cabbagetown, which is housed in a converted 1880s textile mill. "I have never loved a place as much as this one," Victoria said, sharing an inside look with House Beautiful. (Free: People.com; Subscription: Atlanta Journal Constitution)
