Atlanta Among America’s Most Frugal Cities

ATLANTA, GA — When it comes to pinching pennies, Atlanta area residents are among the nation’s best. That’s according to Coupons.com, which named the city in its Top 10 list of the country's most frugal.

Washington, D.C., earned first-place honors in the America’s Most Frugal Cities of 2016 rankings. The report based rankings on the number of digital coupons downloaded per capita in an area during 2016.

Coupons.com’s data came from its parent company, Quotient Technology Inc., which counted downloads made by residents across the United States through the Coupons.com website, its mobile app and the site’s partners across the country. The website has published its rankings index for seven years.

While the nation’s capital earned those first-place honors, Atlanta seems to also have a serious penchant for saving. Residents there downloaded their way to the tenth-place ranking.

Quotient Technology estimated that residents in the Tampa area saved $16.9 million by downloading digital coupons in 2016.

Other frugal cities include: Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN; Orlando, FL; Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX and Tampa, FL.

“The Most Frugal Cities list from Coupons.com demonstrates that shoppers throughout the country are using coupons to stretch their dollars,” Jeanette Pavini, Coupons.com’s consumer savings expert, said in announcing the rankings. “People work hard to earn a living, want to get the most out of their money, and they are saving hundreds of dollars a year by using digital coupons.”
