Atlanta Cop Talks Down Would-Be Bridge Jumper

After speaking with the woman for almost an hour, the officer was successful in saving her from jumping off the overpass.

ATLANTA, GA — An Atlanta police officer is a true hero after talking down a potential jumper from the Moreland Avenue overpass, according to a Facebook post by the police department.

Officer Lisa McGhaw, of Zone 6, said she remained calm and tried to understand the struggling woman's mindset. "The ledge was pretty steep, but I didn't focus on that," McGhaw said. "My primary focus was her."

The incident happened on Monday, Oct. 16, on the Moreland overpass along Westbound I-20. McGhaw used the Crisis Intervention Training she got from the City of Atlanta to help her talk the woman down successfully.
