Atlanta Drug Related Shooting Homicide Suspect Arrested Thur.

Harrison Joseph Ogbunize​, a suspect wanted for an Atlanta drug-related shooting homicide in February was arrested Thursday, said police.

ATLANTA, GA — Harrison Joseph Ogbunize, a suspect wanted for an Atlanta drug-related shooting homicide in February has been arrested, authorities shared in a news release Thursday. Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (MSP VFAS), along with Deputy United States Marshals and Springfield Police Officers, made the arrest this morning.

The suspect is the second arrested in Springfield in connection with the Atlanta homicide; in August the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section Troopers, Deputy Marshals, and Springfield Police Officers arrested another suspect in the same homicide.

Yesterday, Atlanta Police detectives notified Massachusetts State Police that a warrant had been obtained for 34-year-old Ogbunize, the second suspect, who had ties to Springfield area. MSP VFAS Trooper Nelson Zayas initiated an investigation and identified an apartment at 8 Blake St. in Springfield as a possible location for Ogbunize.

Shortly before 7 a.m. today, Trooper Zayas and other VFAS Troopers, along with the Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit, members of a US Marshals Task Force, and other officers went to the Blake Street address and located Ogbunize. The suspect, who is 6’7” tall and weighs approximately 320 lbs., was arrested without incident as a fugitive from justice. He was transported to Springfield Police station for booking and will be held pending rendition to Georgia.

The warrant from Fulton County, Ga., charges Ogbunize with the Feb. 17, 2019 shooting homicide of a 32-year-old male at an apartment building in Atlanta.

MSP VFAS Troopers, Deputy US Marshals, and SPD Officers arrested another suspect from the homicide, Jamel R. Davis, on August 6. Davis was located and arrested in the Indian Orchard neighborhood of Springfield.
