Atlanta Hawks Player Arrested Driving 128 M.P.H.

DeAndre Bembry, from St. Joseph's University, was the Hawks' first selection, and the 21st overall, in the 2016 NBA Draft.

ATLANTA, GA — A player for the Atlanta Hawks basketball team has been arrested after police say he was caught driving 128 m.p.h. — a full 73 m.p.h. over the speed limit.

Deandre Bembry, a small forward for the Hawks, was clocked by an Atlanta Police Department officer at about 12:20 a.m. on Interstate 85 near Buford Highway, said police spokesman Officer Donald Hannah. The speed limit in that area is 55 m.ph.

Bembry, 23, was driving a purple Dodge Charger, according to police. He was stopped without incident and arrested on charges of reckless driving and speeding.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Bembry is a second-year player out of St. Joseph's University. Since being drafted 21st overall by the Hawks in the 2016 NBA Draft, he has averaged just over 12 minutes per game, with 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per outing.
