Atlanta Man Dies From Burns In New Zealand Volcano Eruption
An Atlanta man hospitalized with burns in New Zealand after a volcano eruption died from treatment complications.

ATLANTA, GA — A metro-Atlanta man who was injured in December in New Zealand’s White Island volcano eruption, alongside his wife, has died, family tells WSB.
Pratap “Paul” Singh and his wife Mayuari were among the 47 tourists exploring the island when the volcano erupted Dec. 9. Both were injured in the eruption, suffering burns. Paul was burned on 40 percent of his body and was hospitalized. Mayurai died Dec. 23.
According to the WSB, the Stone Mountain couple’s three children and Mayuari’s mother stayed on the ship and were not injured when the volcano erupted. They owned several businesses and gave to charity.

The couple are survived by their 3 children - an 11-year-old son and 6-year-old twins, reports the New Zealand Herald.
So far, 21 people have died from the eruption.

Facebook user Swadesh Katoch posted that Pratap was the Sewa International Atlanta chapter President. He said Pratap was know for his philanthropic work in Atlanta, especially in the African American community.
"Pratap ji was a self made person who landed in US with no money, no degrees and no place to go but made his name. Someone should make a movie on his enrich life/ his lifestyle/ his struggle and how he rose from zero to this level. Short life but very well lived."
