The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the man was given verbal commands to show his hands before the sergeant shot into the car, hitting the man. Neither Malecki or the GBI said what led the sergeant to fire shots, but Malecki said the man was shot somewhere in his face.
Malecki said officers found a gun on the man's person, and he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. He said the man is expected to recover, and the sergeant was not injured in the shooting.
