Atlanta Public Schools Could Remove Columbus Day From Calendar

A proposed holiday calendar change for Atlanta Public Schools could drop Columbus Day and instead honor Indigenous Peoples' Day on Oct. 12.

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta Public Schools may no longer honor Columbus Day as a school holiday if the board votes on a proposal to change it to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. On Monday, they showed unanimous support for the switch, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A vote to make it official is expected to happen at an upcoming board meeting.

Both holidays are on Oct. 12, 2020.
