Atlanta Schools Make Decision On Saturday Activities

Here's how public school events, including high school sports, will be handled on Saturday, Jan. 20, according to Atlanta Public Schools.

ATLANTA, GA — It may not be a school day, but things will be getting back to normal for Atlanta Public Schools on Saturday.

After three days of canceled classes due to the winter storm that dumped snow and ice on metro Atlanta, along with dangerous temperatures and wind chills, normal activities will resume Saturday, the school system announced Friday.

That includes high school sports schedules, but middle school athletics still will be canceled, the system said. Students and parents should contact school officials for details on other planned activities like meetings and field trips.

"Please be safe and exercise caution as you travel to any school activity or event and thank you for your continued support of Atlanta Public Schools," the system said in its announcement.

After a winter storm hit north Georgia late Tuesday and early Wednesday, schools throughout metro Atlanta, along with state and local government offices, were closed while emergency teams worked on ice-slicked roadways.
