Atlanta Schools to Swear In New Police Department

A chief and 67 law enforcement personnel will be sworn in on Thursday.

Atlanta, GA -- A chief of police and 67 certified law enforcement personnel will be sworn in as members of the new Atlanta Public Schools Police Department at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2016.

The swearing-in ceremony launches the school district’s new police department and approach to protecting 50,000 students, nearly 5,000 employees and more than 100 learning sites and facilities.

The new APS Police Department will begin full operation starting July 1, 2016.

Judge Cassandra Kirk of Fulton County Magistrate Court will preside. Also scheduled to attend are Courtney D. English, chairman of Atlanta Board of Education; APS superintendent Meria Carstarphen; and Schools Police Chief Ronald Applin.
