Atlanta Shooting Injures Child, 10, During Dispute

A child was found with a gunshot wound to the chest after a dispute escalated and led to a shooting in Atlanta, police say.

ATLANTA, GA — A 10-year-old boy was critically injured in a targeted shooting Sunday in the 100 block of Ruzelle Drive Southeast, Atlanta Police said.

The shooting happened around 6:45 a.m. when a dispute between two groups escalated, police said. Officers found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

They applied a chest seal and rendered aid before first responders took him to Grady Memorial Hospital, police said. The child underwent surgery and was in stable condition, police said.

A motive in the shooting is unknown, and the boy's condition was not immediately known Monday morning. Police have not identified any potential suspects.
