Atlanta's Frontline Workers To Receive Hazard Pay: GA Coronavirus

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued an order to extend the hazard pay for Atlanta's frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta’s frontline workers will receive hazard pay through June. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued the executive order to extend the pay. The city’s public safety and sanitation workers are just a few who will receive the $500 a month hazard pay in Atlanta.

Employees will also receive compensatory days.

Senate Democrats in Washington D.C. have proposed up to $25,000 in hazard pay for essential workers, which includes doctors, nurses and even grocery store clerks, reports WXIA.

“Hazard pay is additional pay that’s given to an employee because they have a dangerous job. A job that puts them in some sort of harm’s way," Chandra Davis, with The Employment Law Solution, McFadden Davis, lawfirm, tells the news station.

Davis said that the hazard pay isn’t legally required, but workers can appeal to the government or their union if they believe they deserve it.
