Best BBQ Restaurants In US Includes Georgia Joint

A Georgia restaurant is on a list of the best barbecue joints in the country, according to Thrillist.

SAVANNAH, GA — Do you like pulled pork, delicate slices of brisket, or maybe a pile of burnt ends when you crave barbecue? Whatever your preference you can find it at this Georgia restaurant, which is on a list of the best barbecue joints in the country compiled by the Thrillist website.

B's Cracklin' BBQ is a Savannah standout that also has an Atlanta location at 2061 Main Street NW. It has garnered Atlanta Eater Restaurant of the Year and Atlanta Eater Chef of the Year honors. Head pitmaster, Bryan Furman left his day job as a welder to pursue cooking his signature-style pit smoked barbeque, chicken and ribs, the restaurant says on its website. What began as a fun idea to celebrate his daughter’s first birthday in 2010 by roasting a hog for family and friends, turned into catering and filling order requests from his co-workers.

The Thrillist authors who had the tough challenge of sampling tasty meats and sauces across the country said their job was difficult since a new generation of pitmasters is challenging the old guard to up the stakes of best smoked meats. "We engaged in both aggressive and passive-aggressive arguments about smoked meat. In the end, we settled on these 33 BBQ joints that are continuing America's grand traditions while also pushing them in exciting new directions," the website said.

Here's what Thrillist says about B's Cracklin' BBQ in Savannah:

"Pitmaster Bryan Furman knows pork, and not just how to cook it. Raised in the Carolinas with a grandfather who bred hogs and butchered them on special occasions, Furman followed in his family footsteps by starting a heritage breed pig farm that now supplies his restaurants in Savannah and Georgia. Carolina-style chopped pork is the main course, with a buffet of sauces on the side that allow diners to dress their meat to regional tastes, but don’t miss the brisket -- it just might be the best in the state of Georgia."
