Black Lives Matter Rally in Downtown Atlanta Draws Police

About 25 protesters attempted to get onto I-75 on Wednesday.

Atlanta, GA — A Black Lives Rally march began Wednesday morning in downtown Atlanta.

According to a Twitter feed called Official BLM Atlanta — @BLMAtlanta — the march drew the attention of Atlanta police, and an Atlanta police spokesperson told Patch that about 25 protesters near I-75 were attempting to get on the expressway at one point.

According to the AJC, the protest ended around 11:30 am.

Atlanta was the scene of five straight days of protests over recent police shootings nationwide involving white officers and black men. Four of the protests — from Thursday through Sunday — were held in downtown, but on Monday, a rally was held in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead community which led to several arrests.

The Buckhead rally, which began around 7 p.m., led from the popular Lenox Square shopping district, through a major Buckhead intersection, and all the way the governor's mansion. Early Tuesday morning, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed met with protesters and promised a meeting with rally organizers next week.

Ten people were arrested in downtown on Sunday night for attempting to block access to the city's downtown connector, as well as for disorderly conduct.
