Buckhead Heritage Pancake Supper and History Talk

Former Mayor Sam Massell and Demos Galaktiadis talk about Buckhead history

Sixty Buckhead Heritage members and guests were entertained with behind-the-scenes history about The White House Restaurant during a recent Pancake Supper and History Talk. This venerated breakfast and lunch spot on Peachtree Road is one of the oldest businesses in Buckhead, and opened this evening for the Buckhead Heritage event. Taking center stage were owner Demos Galaktiadis, who purchased the 71-year-old restaurant in 1971, and former Mayor Sam Massell, who recounted stories about the businesses that once occupied the property now known as Loudermilk Park. When Mayor Massell evicted Demos and other businesses to make way for the park, The White House Restaurant moved a block north to 3172 Peachtree Road. Sam and Demos have since become good friends.

During the Buckhead Heritage special event, Demos Galaktiadis received a plaque from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office proclaiming him an Outstanding Georgia Citizen and a Goodwill Ambassador from the state. Recipients are selected for this honor based on merit and service to their community. Longtime Demos friend Alan Smith presented the award, which he had worked to secure with local politicians and the Secretary of State’s office.
