Founded in 1990 by Artistic/Executive Director, Douglas Scott, the organization was originally known as Dance Force. The company began as a ‘traditional’ dance company in which all members were professional dancers without disabilities. In 1993, Douglas began teaching dance classes for persons with physical disabilities, developing a distinctive modern dance technique that is inclusive, challenging for all physical abilities, and that is firmly founded in art and not designed to be “therapeutic.” Full Radius Dance is now lauded for its distinct style, technique, artistry, and inclusiveness. Full Radius Dance maintains a highly rigorous and active performance schedule in the Greater Atlanta area, as well as regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Collective Memory is a performance to acknowledge and demonstrate how Full Radius Dance has been shaped by numerous artists and collaborators throughout the years and that all share in the success of Full Radius Dance. Each performance will begin with a reimagining of the 2010 work Walking on My Grave by Artistic/Executive Director, Douglas Scott. This will be followed by a retrospective and testimonial film edited by former company member, Jodie Jernigan. A premier by another former company member, now board member, Ashlee-Jo Ramsey Bornov, will complete the first act of the event. After intermission, the film Every Body will be shown. This short film will be followed by the premier of Fluidity of Time by Scott.
With over thirty years of experience in the field, the Full Radius Dance is widely recognized as a pioneer in the art of dance.
