Live Music Takes the Spotlight at Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint

The 50th Atlanta Film Festival and Tara Atlanta present the city’s premiere screening for the 4K restoration of “Building Bombs,” the Oscar-nominated documentary that opened the 1989 Atlanta Film and Video Festival. Chronicling everyday life in Aiken, S.C., ground zero for America's hydrogen bomb-making facility, the film presents shocking revelations about the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s mismanagement of its Savannah River Plant. Through interviews with residents, politicians, activists and workers, the incisive film presents life in the shadow of nuclear weapon production and illegally dumped radioactive waste. Narrated by Oscar nominee Jane Alexander, this screening includes a Q&amp;A with Oscar-nominated filmmakers Susan J. Robinson and Mark Mori, whose career of activism-related filmmaking launched following his experiences as an Atlanta union steelworker.

The 50th Atlanta Film Festival and Tara Atlanta present the city’s premiere screening of “Baristas vs Billionaires,” the new documentary about Starbucks workers inspired to create the brand’s first union. Narrated by Susan Sarandon, the eye-opening documentary is a fast-paced, feature-length film that investigates and exposes Starbucks’ illegal union-busting tactics. Baristas activate and explain in their own words how they’re going to win this fight for their union—Starbucks Workers United (SBWU)—and their livelihoods! Screening includes Q&amp;A with Oscar-nominated director/producer Mark Mori, local film production team members from Atlanta including Bob Judson, Dennis LA White, as well as writer Brandyn Cross.

Through these voices, we traverse dirt roads and footpaths alike; celebrating adventure, honoring responsibility, and connecting through the shared experience of life’s winding journey.Some roads are simple stretches of earth; some paths have been walked for centuries. Dr. Stanley Roberts recalls growing up on a dirt road in South Georgia, where the rhythms of life, the care of the land, and the quiet lessons of daily travel shaped who he became. Decades later, he wandered the footpaths of England’s Lake District – trails crossing fields, villages, ancient walls, and hidden gardens – where every step invites reflection, wonder, and discovery. These paths are more than routes from place to place; they are metaphors for life itself. On some days, we wander freely, delighting in the scenery, the sounds, the unexpected turns. On others, we are called to care for the path, to guide, to mark the way for those who follow. Life, like a footpath, asks us to journey thoughtfully, to notice the beauty around us, and to leave the path a little clearer than we found it. Recognized as one of the premier professional choral ensembles in the Southeast, the choir features some of the region’s most talented vocalists and is known for polished performances that celebrate unique and intriguing programming. With a repertoire that spans the breadth of choral literature—from early music and time-honored classics to new works—Coro Vocati showcases a diversity of musical styles and cultural backgrounds.
