Returning Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23, 2026, <a href="https://summershadefestival.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Summer Shade Festival</a> marks its 24th year as one of Atlanta’s favorite end-of-summer weekends, once again filling Grant Park with live music, regional artists, vintage vendors, local food, and family-friendly programming spread throughout the city’s oldest park. Presented by and benefiting the <a href="https://www.gpconservancy.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Grant Park Conservancy</a>, the free festival takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature more than 140 artists and makers from across the Southeast showcasing handmade goods, original artwork, jewelry, vintage clothing, home décor, specialty foods, and other small-batch finds. Food vendors, cold drinks, shaded picnic spots, and live entertainment throughout the weekend give guests plenty of reasons to spend the day in the park. Families can expect kid-friendly activities and open green space throughout the weekend, while <a href="https://www.wearedeepsouth.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Deep South Wrestling</a> returns with its wildly entertaining matches that have become a staple of the festival year after year. Summer Shade Festival Returns to Grant Park for its 24th Year

One of Grant Park’s favorite summer traditions is back. <a href="https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Atlanta/RunforthePark5K" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The 24th annual Adams Realtors Run for the Park 5K</a> returns Saturday, August 22, 2026, kicking off <a href="https://summershadefestival.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Summer Shade Festival</a> weekend with a morning run through the historic neighborhood in support of the Grant Park Conservancy. Open to runners, walkers, strollers, and families, the 5K begins at 8 a.m., followed by a free Kids Tot Trot for ages 5 and under at 8:45 a.m. Race day begins at 7 a.m. with registration and check-in at Zoo Atlanta's main entrance (800 Cherokee Ave. SE). Participants can start the morning with a guided stretch led by Rene of Challenge Aerial at 7:30 a.m., followed by the National Anthem at 7:55 a.m. The certified 5K also serves as a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race, with awards presented at 9 a.m.After crossing the finish line, participants will receive a popsicle courtesy of King of Pops and a race T-shirt designed by noted Grant Park artist Willem Kaiser. Participants 21 and older can show their race bib along with a valid ID to enjoy a complimentary draft beer at Dakota Blue (454 Cherokee Ave. SE, along the racecourse), courtesy of Adams Realtors. The celebration continues at the Grant Park Conservancy Summer Shade Festival beginning at 10 a.m. Festival-goers can browse more than 140 artists and makers from across the Southeast, shop vintage vendors, grab local food and drinks, catch live music, and take in the return of Deep South Wrestling. Families can also enjoy kids' activities and a full day in one of Atlanta’s favorite parks.

Keeper for a Day: Elephants 

Join the team at the Zambezi Elephant Center and immerse yourself in what it takes to care for the largest land animals on the planet!
Spend the morning working alongside the Elephant Care Team to prepare the habitat for the day and ensure the elephants’ needs are met.
This unique experience is sure to educate and inspire you about these special individuals, help you learn more about the rigorous requirements of professional elephant care, and gain an understanding of the ways Zoo Atlanta is working to protect wild populations. Participants can expect to meet members of the Animal Care Team, meet an animal, learn about our positive reinforcement training and enrichment programs, and walk away with knowledge of how to save species. All participation in Keeper for a Day programs is voluntary for the animals.
Before registering, please understand that during this program:

 <li>Participants will perform similar tasks as members of the Elephant Care Team, which may include raking, sweeping, hosing, scrubbing, and shoveling, and should expect to do some hard work and be comfortable getting dirty. </li>
 <li>Participants will be expected to participate in all weather conditions, lift up to 30 pounds, and be on their feet for up to four hours. </li>
 <li>Participants must have the physical ability to bend, lift, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time. </li>
 <li>Participants may be exposed to potential allergens such as insects, hay, animal waste, and other potential allergens. Please reach out in advance if you have any questions or concerns. </li>

College Football Hall of Fame

The Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame is officially kicking off the 2026 college football season in Atlanta with its annual Football Fest &amp; Free Day, presented by the Peach Bowl, on Saturday, August 22. Fans of all ages are invited to enjoy FREE admission throughout the day while experiencing everything the Hall has to offer, and a few surprises unique to the Capital of College Football.

Guests can experience the Hall’s world-class interactive exhibits alongside appearances and activities featuring some of Atlanta’s biggest sports organizations, including the College GameDay Bus Built by The Home Depot, representatives from the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Vibe and Clark Atlanta University cheerleaders, as well as local marching bands, mascots, live entertainment and more. Football-themed activities and family-friendly games will take place throughout the Hall and extend outdoors onto Marietta Street.

Visitors will also get a first look at the dedicated display honoring the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Class. Football Fest &amp; Free Day offers fans a chance to celebrate the return of college football while experiencing the energy, traditions and personalities that make Atlanta the Capital of College Football.
