Celebration Of Life Set For Late Fulton Judge, City Council President
The family of Marvin S. Arrington Sr., who died on July 5, is remembering him this week.
ATLANTA, GA — A celebration of life for Marvin S. Arrington Sr., a former Fulton County Superior Court judge and Atlanta City Council president, is being held this week.
Arrington died on July 5 of an unknown cause, according to his obituary.
He is currently lying in state until 4 p.m. Thursday in the Marvin S. Arrington Sr. Council Chambers of Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue. Tributes will begin at noon.

Arrington's wake, which will be held from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Big Bethel AME Church at Auburn Avenue, will be live-streamed here.
A Celebration of Life ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, 101 Jackson St. The interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, 1173 Cascade Circle.

A repast will be hosted at the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, 534 Fairburn Road.
The week's events will conclude Saturday with a film screening of "Bo Legs: Marvin Arrington Sr., An Atlanta Story" at the Lindsay St. Baptist Church, 550 Lindsay St. The screening will begin at 2 p.m.
According to IMDB, "Bo Legs" is a documentary that chronicles Arrington's life and legacy.
"Marvin Arrington, Sr. is one of Atlanta's most significant political leaders yet one of its least recognized. Born in Atlanta, then a segregated, provincial town of the Deep South Arrington grew up to help galvanize the city of his birth into the international, cosmopolitan metropolis that it is today," according to the documentary's description on IMDB.
"Battling through the blows of racism and meshing with political opponents over the years Marvin 'Bo Legs' Arrington not only found his way but made his mark in civic duty and social justice. By telling his story this film tells the story of Atlanta."
The film is featured on the Tubi streaming service.
The family asked contributions to the Marvin S. Arrington Sr. Legal Foundation be made in lieu of flowers. The funding will benefit scholarships for students.
Arrington's son, Marvin S. Arrington Jr., is currently the District 5 Fulton County commissioner.
