Core Dance Announces 18-19 Season

The internationally-recognized dance organization will present its 39th season of original dance works and community outreach.

ATLANTA – Core Dance, the internationally-recognized, award-winning contemporary dance organization based in Atlanta, GA and Houston, TX, will present its 39th season of original dance works and community-based performances and outreach.

The season is filled with contemporary works from the Core Dance repertoire exploring personal loss, body and culture, the individual and the group, and the tension between culture and identity.

Core Dance continues its collaboration with international dance makers Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor of Israel, with performances on February 1 – 3, 2019 at 7 Stages of the humorous, deeply-felt, high-intensity American Playground, and a new work The Third Dance, the follow-up to Niv and Oren’s award-winning Two Room Apartment, exploring the evolution and pathos of love and relationships.

American Playground investigates multiple themes including ‘body as resistance,” personal authenticity and the dialogue between public and private spaces. Approximately one hour in length, the work is an active collaboration between the choreographers and the dancers, and is structured with a blend of pre-determined movement and improvised movement. The work evokes both humor and pathos, as the dancers explore the themes in partnership with one another and through the manipulation of props and costume pieces. Sheinfeld and Laor seek to coax complete authentic presence from the performers through the themes and formal structure, leaving a deeply-felt impact upon the audience.

The Third Dance

A couple in life and on stage, Israeli choreographers Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor give us a thrilling opportunity to revisit a seminal dance piece through the lens of the time that passed since their last duet, Two Room Apartment. The Third Dance explores changes in their bodies, in their relationship, in their perception of stage and space, and in their relationship to the audience.
