CTCA Atlanta Supports Lung Cancer Education, Helps Fund Research
CTCA partners with American Lung Association for educational series, local fundraising event

The American Lung Association in Georgia and Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) Atlanta are partnering in the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk as well as an educational speaker series to build awareness of and advocacy for lung cancer education and research.
“Lung cancer is the leading cancer of both men and women in the U.S., so collaboration is key to raise awareness about the disease, increase lung cancer screening and improve patient outcomes,” said Herbert L. Duvivier, MD, JD, hematologist and medical oncologist at CTCA Atlanta. “Our partnership with the American Lung Association will help residents better understand lung cancer and encourage them to take action to keep themselves and their family healthy.”
CTCA Atlanta and the American Lung Association are partnering for Atlanta Community Connections, a free online speaker series developed to provide attendees with the information they need to explore concerns, answer questions, and start a conversation regarding lung cancer and lung disease. The next Community Connections event is November 3 at 1 p.m. and features Dr. Duvivier who will discuss “When to Worry About Lung Nodules.”

“Here in Georgia in 2021, it is estimated that 7,250 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer and 4,200 will die from the disease. The work of the oncology community and partners like CTCA Atlanta is critical to the lives of so many people who are impacted by this disease,” said Rochelle Smalls, executive director of the Lung Association in Georgia. “Their support helps us in our work to end lung disease and lung cancer as well as address disparities in Atlanta and across the nation.”
CTCA Atlanta is also a partner in the Atlanta LUNG FORCE Run/Walk, happening on December 4 at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. For the event, participants will run or walk a 5K to help raise awareness and funds to end lung cancer and lung disease. For this year’s event, the organization will implement extensive safety measures for participants, and is also offering a “Walk Your Way” option for those who are not able to make the in-person event.
