Delta Cancels More Than 650 Flights; CEO Apologizes

The airline is still investigating what caused a massive power outage on Monday morning. All systems have been restored but delays remain.

ATLANTA, GA — Delta Air Lines says its systems have fully recovered from a massive power outage on Monday morning that caused the company to cancel more than 650 flights.

The cause of the power loss is still unknown. Delta said some critical systems and network equipment didn’t switch over to Delta’s backup systems.

As of early Monday afternoon, Delta had operated 2,340 of its nearly 6,000 scheduled flights. Delays and cancellations remain as recovery efforts continue.

Officials said for the rest of the afternoon and evening customers should check the status of their flight at delta.com or the Fly Delta App. Customers can rebook their flight at the website.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized to customers for disruption to airline's operations, and said airline employees are working "all hands on deck" to bring flight schedule back to normal.
