Delta Pilot Indicted On Charges Of Lying About His Mental Health

The pilot is accused of falsifying his FAA medical records so he could keep flying.

PEACHTREE CITY, GA. -- A Delta Air Lines pilot has been accused of falsifying his FAA medical records in order to keep flying. Adam Asleson, 39, has been indicted on charges that he misled officials to obtain medical certifications that are central in determining a pilot's fitness to operate an aircraft. Delta has issued a statement that Asleson is no longer flying for the carrier.

The FAA said Asleson did not tell the agency he sought help for a "major depressive disorder" from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Instead, Channel 2 is reporting Asleson is accused of telling the agency he received the VA benefits for a knee strain and tinnitus.

“Delta pilots are held to the highest standards of professionalism, honesty and integrity,” a spokesperson told the station. “Once made aware of the situation, we opened an internal investigation and are working cooperatively with the authorities.”
