1 Dead After Tree Falls On Car During Storm In Clayton County

The fatal crash happened at Highway 54 and Jenni Lane, police say.

JONESBORO, GA — A tree fell on a car and killed a person around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Fayetteville Road and Jenni Lane in Clayton County amid a threatening storm that brought strong wind gusts, Clayton County Police said.

When officers arrived, they found a tree laying across the front windshield of a white four-door car with one person inside of the car, police said.

The tree fell on the car while it was heading east on Fayetteville, police said. The driver was declared dead at the scene, police said.

The storm battered metro Atlanta, including Clayton County, most of Tuesday and was forecast to enter the evening hours.

County officials reported around 11 a.m. a road closure due to flooding between Garden Walk and Arrowhead Boulevard on Upper Riverdale Road. Drivers were asked to use alternate routes. It is unknown how long the closure lasted.
