Elton John 2018 Farewell Tour: Atlanta Dates

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta is a town that Elton John sometimes calls home. So, it's only fitting that there are two Atlanta dates included on what the pop superstar says will be his final concert tour.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will kick off on Sept. 8 and run for three years, with more than 300 shows scheduled across five continents. The show will hit Philips Arena on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2018.

"It's time to come off the road so I can fully embrace the next important chapter of my life," said John, 70, at a lavish announcement event at Gotham Hall in New York City on Wednesday.

Since beginning a songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin in 1967, John has spent roughly five decades on the road during a career that has cemented him as a legend of pop and rock. He has sold more than 300 million records, charted 58 songs on the Billboard Top 40 and, between 1970-2000, had a song on the Billboard Top 100 for 31 consecutive years.

He has received five Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Tony Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Middlesex, England, John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his charitable work in 1998.

Since the early '90s, John has kept a condominium in a high-rise in Buckhead as one of his main homes. Known to be an Atlanta Braves fan, he's been regularly spotted around town, including stops at now-closed Tower Records in Buckhead, at Six Flags and dining at some of Buckhead's highly regarded restaurants.

He performed the very first concert at Philips Arena when it was opened in September 1999.
