Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:

  1. The family of 28-year-old Brianna Grier, who died on Jul. 21 after she fell from a moving patrol car following her arrest on Jul. 15, are demanding answers. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation say officers failed to close the rear passenger-side door before driving away after her arrest. Authorities haven't said what Grier was arrested for, but the family's attorney says Grier was taken into custody after a mental health crisis. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  2. Atlanta educator Junior Bernadin, a former STEM teacher, is committed to providing more opportunities to marginalized communities. Bernadin hopes to create a nonprofit focused on Web 3 where marginalized people are more than just consumers. (The Business Journals)
  3. Metro Atlanta brothers, Jonathan Phillips and Jourdan Phillips, have been found guilty by the DA in a case dating back to September 2019. Jonathan hit a woman in the face, dragged her down a driveway, and eventually open fired on her as she sped away. His brother, Jourdan, lied to the police and said he was the shooter. (WSB Radio)
  4. Six-year-old Kase Williams, and his mother Rocky Griggs, painted rocks at the start of the pandemic two years ago to pass time. Their rock painting eventually led to a published book called "Rock in the Pocket." The pair hopes to inspire others about how rocks are all different and unique just like people. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  5. Three Georgia properties represented by Harry Norman, Realtors are finalists for the HGTV Ultimate House Hunt 2022. The "hunt" showcases homes across the country in eight categories that are incredible. One property is right in Atlanta: 90 Palisades Road NE. (The Atlanta 100)
